Budapest and Ankara Cooperation

The cooperation between Budapest and Ankara dates back almost 30 years. In 1991, a Memorandum of Cooperation and Cooperation between the two countries was signed, and in 2015, the two cities signed a twinning agreement.

As a sign of mutual respect, first the Budapest Days were held in Ankara, and in 2016, the Ankara Days were held in Budapest, where the history and culture of the cities were mutually presented at the festivities. One of the boulevards in Ankara commemorates the friendship of the two cities, the Budapest boulevard.

On September 11, 2015, in the presence of István Tarlós, Mayor of Budapest and Melih Gökcek, Mayor of Ankara, the Budapest Avenue was opened in the Çukurambar district of Çankaya. In response to this gesture, one of the streets in the neighborhood of Tomb of Gül Baba was renamed Ankara Street in Budapest on May 2, 2016.
